Peer Mentoring
This project will expand the existing Peer Mentor program to serve more students, reaching more broadly into our underrepresented student population. An additional four Peer Mentors will allow us to engage 1,000 students each year. It will also provide us the opportunity to recruit and train Peer Mentors starting this summer, with the expanded Peer Mentor program to commence with the 2019-2020 school year.
toBurton Book FUnd 20-21
This award will assist eligible Seawolf Scholars in purchasing their textbooks and required course supplies for the 2020-2021 academic year. As stated by John Burton Advocates for Youth, "The goal of the Burton Book Fund is to promote college success among current and former foster youth by helping offset the high cost of textbooks and by encouraging their engagement and contact with campus support professionals."
toTRIO - SSS-Multilingual Achievers Program
In support of SSU's commitment and goal to serve underrepresented and underserved student populations, TRIO SSS-Multilingual Achievers Program provides multilingual and educationally under-prepared students with individualized math and writing assistance.
toAdapting Higher Education to Meet Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) Needs in the New Virtual Environment
This grant supports an expansion of Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA), via four primary components:
1. Expanding MESA recruiting and support by growing collaborations with CAASE programs (EOP, PUERTA, etc).
2. Providing incentives for Peer Mentors, undergraduate research, and MESA Honors, to support the financial needs of BIPOC students.
3. Developing an online interactive guide for student success, which will be tested by MESA students.
toStudent Support Services (SSS) - United for Success (U4S)
In support of SSU's commitment and goal to serve underrepresented and underserved student populations, TRIO SSS-Multilingual Achievers Program provides individualized academic and personal support to first-generation, low-income multilingual students and multilingual students with disabilities to support their success at SSU and beyond.
toScholarship America 19-20; Scholarship America California Wildlife Disaster Relief
The Scholarship America fund provides a one-time scholarship award of $379 to students who experienced financial hardship related to the California Wildfires in Fall 2019. The scholarship allows students to use this funding for tuition, fees, books, housing, and other education-related expenses.
toSeawolf Scholars 2020 Basic Needs
This award supports the Seawolf Scholars Critical Needs Fund in direct response to the adverse financial impacts COVID-19 has caused for economically vulnerable populations. It provides emergency funds to foster youth students for needs such as food, shelter, and health care, as these are often the largest barriers to foster youth completing a four-year college degree. In doing so, it helps eliminate external stress and burdens so students can focus on thriving in their education.
toCommunity Foundation Sonoma County Critical Needs
This award contributes to the Seawolf Scholars Critical Needs Fund.
