Abstract:
Sonoma State University, a known to be "Hispanic Serving Institution", consists of a 39.8% Latinx/Hispanic Population. A big percentage of the student population consists of students who are undocumented, either under the status of DACA or no residency status. Coming from a position of an undocumented, first generation, Chicana, I understand the struggle that comes with navigating higher education. In this project I will focus on the undocumented scholars stories pursuing higher education and the struggles, barriers, and overall support Undocu--Scholars receive being in a Predominantly White Institution in Northern California. The methodology for this research is mixed methods, conducting 4 in-depth undocumented student testimonios, and a student survey with numerous student participants. The findings conclude the stories of undocumented students from migrating to another country to pursuing higher education; including whether or not students feel adequately supported from the Sonoma State institution and what the institution could improve on to better support Undocu-scholars.
