Abstract:
In this video, you will see how I create a couple of scenes from The Handmaid’s Tale in watercolor paintings. These few scenes that I’ve chosen, are what I believe to be the best depiction of 80s feminism. As you watch the scene unfold before your eyes you will hear me discuss the author, Margret Atwood’s view of feminism and how it contributed to this novel. I will also talk about the ontology surrounding this society and the specific scenes I have chosen. I will also mention a couple of other pieces of art that were inspired by The Handmaid’s Tale and will compare them to what I have created. Lastly, I will discuss feminist art from the 80s and how it related to what I painted.
