Abstract:
This is a creative story about Amal who was living in Beirut during the civil war in the 1980s. It follows her journey into escaping violence in her homeland and eventually ending up in Hillsboro, Ohio. She is a young girl when the war begins and is forced to grow up sooner than anticipated. Amal relies on her young/naive heart and her grandfather’s stories to get her through this uncomfortable phase. She encounters prejudice in her new home and strives to find the good in her own situation. Her family’s perseverance helps to strengthen her in the troubled year long journey from violence to safety.
