Abstract:

This project is a research thesis that explores how educators can best support the mental health needs of students with moderate to severe developmental disabilities. There is a significant amount of research that discusses the high prevalence rates of mental illness for individuals who have a developmental disability. However, there is limited knowledge and training for educators when it comes to meeting these students' needs within an educational setting. This research thesis also explores the role that an educator may play in the identification of a student's mental illness.
