Abstract:
In 2020 at Sonoma State University, the President’s Advisory Council (PAC) on
Diversity, Equity, Campus Climate, and Inclusion was created to build upon the work on the
Diversity Council. They formed the Sonoma State Campus Climate Survey to collect data from students and faculty about the climate around campus. This data was given to the students in Math 467 to analyze. The data was quantitative so the appropriate tests were run. It was found that there was not a connection between the reason a student chose to attend Sonoma State and their race. It was also determined that the group of students that feels the most unwelcomed on campus is African Americans/Black students. By running a Chi Squared test, we were able to discover that there was a connection between those who have reported an incident of discrimination or harassment and their gender. It was determined that cisgendered women are more likely to submit a report over any other gender or sexual orientation. These findings help us to determine how to better help students on campus feel welcomed and heard.
