Abstract:
When herbicides are used they can remain active for a vast amount of time in the environment. Their long active life span can potentially cause soil and water contamination ultimately resulting in collateral damage to other organisms including humans. Because of the toxicity of herbicides there have been movements towards developing an efficacious organic herbicide. Weed Zap is being tested currently to see if it is an effective substitute for synthetic herbicides with Eugenol as one of its three components. The purpose of this project is to look into measuring components used in organic herbicides, such as Eugenol, through the methods of solid phase extraction (SPE) and chromatography. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic wet lab results could not be obtained so the project has proceeded to focus on corresponding literature articles.
