Abstract:
It is safe to say that Americans, specifically American educators, do not have an accurate idea of what African American Vernacular English (AAVE) is. Based on the research, this lack of understanding is damaging to American students, specifically those who identify as African American or Black and those who speak AAVE. Once educators are properly educated about the background and uses of AAVE and implement it into their curriculum, only then can we stop the damage that is being done to students who endure the consequences of their educators' ignorance.
