Abstract:
My goal for this project is to help educate people on racial disparities within the music industry. Mainly focusing on rap and hip-hop I researched the origins of the musical genre and its relations to the black community. I then went on to define what racism is to get a clearer understanding of the issue. Next came defining cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation. I intended this project to read like an online lecture as my goal is to become a teacher upon graduation. However, due to software issues, this did not happen. I hope that this project is able to help create more of an understanding of the relationship between race and music.
