The 1970’s was a decade that represented a new foundation and composure for our country. Progressive rock is an abstract symbol in the era of the 1970s. Even though the 70s held many bits of rich, foundational information, the topic that caught our attention the most was the influence of progressive rock. Our project analyzes progressive rock and Pink Floyd's influence on the 1970’s. Before the progressive rock era, our country was more used to a traditional format of songwriting, musical performances, and style of composition. While putting together our project, we focused and studied how the traditional format of songwriting and musical performances was changed. New experiments with instrumentals and beats, allowed for many different bands and artists to use their musical abilities and create new versions of music. Besides just being an influence through the musical world, progressive rock exemplified a new and improved type of lifestyle. Psychedelic drugs, colorful imagery, and other things became popular in the music scene and Pink Floyd’s iconic sound is one that is known by many generations, and many more to come. Without their direct contribution to the advancement of progressive rock, the music we know today could have been completely different. We will be looking at one of Pink Floyd’s live performances, which is argued by many as their greatest live show of all time. Their influence on songwriting and experimentation has been seen in many new generations of music, leaving them as one of the most influential bands of all time, and the most influential of the decade.
