Abstract:
The occupy alcatraz movement was one of the first of many different protests that led to the native people of the United States receiving more equal treatment. This was also one of the first movements that involved many different tribes coming together to work as one, This led to widespread media coverage, and one of the first times that natives have been listened to by the government. Though not a successful occupation in the traditional sense of the word, this movement led to many others like it and to the rise of Native American equality as a whole. This unique part of California history is remembered still today.
