Abstract:
For my final project, I decided to focus on women’s fashion in the 1920s, specifically the influence their fashion trends have had on modern day fashion. I chose 5 specific fashion pieces, which include the flapper dress, robe de style, cardigans, accessories, and cloche hats. I chose those 5 pieces, because I feel that those were the most important pieces from the 1920s, that women used to make a statement. I admired the women of the 20s, because they represented freedom and they were beginning to find their voices. Going against the social and political norms of the times by protesting for their equal rights. My love for fashion inspired the drawings that I created to represent the fashions of this generation, and I enjoyed that aspect of the project the most. I wanted to find a way to make the project mine while staying within the expectations of the overall assignment. That is why I chose to handmake a book of outfit drawings, as I imagined myself as a designer of the new generation, paying homage to a generation before me.
