Abstract:
This report presents information about how HIV affects the Black community in America. It answers questions surrounding how significant this impact is compared to other ethnicities. Because HIV is so heavily criminalized in America and Black Americans are disproportionately incarcerated, it is important to understand the relationship between the two. Information from the 2018 census and the report of HIV in 2018 from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention were used to draw conclusions about how HIV impacts 7 different ethnicities. It was found that in a great majority of categories, involving age, gender, transmission type, and region of residency, Black Americans were statistically significantly disproportionately diagnosed with HIV in 2018 more than any other ethnicity.
