Abstract:
My project demonstrates how women all around the world have faced discrimination and social sexism for many years. They were labeled differently according to what they would wear. During the 1970’s there was a large focus on women's fashion and how certain styles expressed different opinions and lifestyles. Women came forward with their sense of style by wearing more color to promote happiness and freedom to gain acceptance. This gain of acceptance was widely achieved by a number of women who were tired of being told how to dress, and how to act in society.
My final project is based around the idea of happiness and was inspired by pop artist Andy Warhol. I decided to create a painting on a canvas that displays pure happiness. I painted the canvas with many different spirals of color and then added a quote onto it which says “Do what makes you happy!!” I wanted a piece to grab the eye of my viewers, which I believe my piece does a good job.
