Western Blacklegged Ticks and the Occurrence of Lyme Disease in California

Abstract:

Found in nearly every county of California, Western Blacklegged ticks (Ixodes pacificus) are the most common vector for the Lyme Disease bacterium, Borrelia burgdorferi, in the state. Sonoma County averages over eight Lyme Disease cases per year, the greatest in the state of California. A Geographic Information System Analysis (GIS) was performed to overlay data of cases in the state of California from the years 2000-2018. This is an ongoing project and results will be updated.
