Abstract:
My creative project is presenting the fashion icon, Madonna in the 1980's. In the 1980s Madonna proved too not just be a pop star but also to be very influential to female fashion. She had an alluring persona always wearing costume jewelry and eye catching pieces. She changed with the times. Developing a growing fan base to the younger generations, specifically young women. ‘Like A Virgin,’ ‘Papa Don’t Preach,’ and ‘Into the Groove’ all released to pave her way to reach pop star status. She inspired so many iconic 80’s looks that we all know and love today such as short skirts over leggings, necklaces, rubber bracelets, fishnets, hair bows, long layered strings of beads, head bands, lace ribbons, lingerie as outerwear, huge crucifix jewelry, lace gloves, and tulle skirts. She pushed the boundaries and gave women a new sense of female empowerment and sexual freedom. Even some of the trends she popularized in the 80s people still wear today on a night out or celebrities rock on stage.
My creative form is a vision board/pic collage. I have been making collages for years now and thought I would improve my skills while also continuing to pursue my passion. I have represented Madonna in two collages. The first one is what I see when envisioning the 1980s and Madonna's icon fashion. The second one being all about her fashion and what she reprensented during the time. Using different color schemes/trends, incorporating new layouts and letting my imagination run free, hope you enjoy!
