Abstract:
The focus of this research is the motivations behind social practices used by companies to benefit society (corporate social responsibility and sustainability practices). I propose the Motivation-Mix Model to classify the different reasons that motivate the use of each practice by a company - there is a particular combination of four mechanisms that motivate each practice at each moment. These mechanisms are commitment, calculation, conformance, and caring. In this study I use an example to illustrate such composition of mechanisms by analyzing the Corporate Community Involvement practices of eight companies in a theoretical sample. A refined theoretical framework for the Motivation-Mix Model is presented. |
