Abstract:
This project describes the type of discrimination that African American women had to deal with during the 1980's it shows how women fought for women. It talks about the different types of discrimination that they had to encounter as well as the ways they were able to overcome it all. Not giving up on the fight for their freedom, many women began to use any advantage they could get, the media beginning a big one. Using the media, they felt as if they were finally being heard and they felt as if they finally had a voice that they could use. The Black Feminist Movement and The Black Liberation Movement allowed women to take back control of their lives, they began to have their freedom. These two movements helped pave the way and reclaim the "blackness" and power that was taken away from them due to racism and sexist stereotypes. During the 1980's, the economic status of African American women had improved since the 1940's due to the decrease in racial discriminationa and because of their occupations. This powerpoint shows how strong African American are and were during those hard times. It shows that they were able to take back control of their lives and not allow anyone or anything to control them again.
