Abstract:
Education Public Outreach Physics and Astronomy has been developing an original high school curriculum, called Learning by Making, that focuses on hands on learning. It has been designed to incorporate the Next Generation Science Standards and has proven to be a fun and effective way to get students engaged in math, science, and engineering in the classroom compared to traditional learning settings. Students get to learn how to code and work with breadboard electronics. The skills students learn throughout the semester are then used to design their own experiments adapted from real world applications. The goal of Learning by Making is to make science curriculum more engaging while still educational ultimately getting more students interested in continuing their science education beyond high school.
