Abstract:
For my SYRCE Project, I decided to do a cooking show that took place in the 1920s and I wanted the show to resemble a silent film. Throughout the early stages of researching the 1920s, the country’s Prohibition-era intrigued me the most. I was fascinated that alcohol, which we currently see in nearly every facet of life in the United States, was once outlawed throughout the country. My research led me to find out about speakeasies and I decided to base my video on one particular location known as the “21 Club”. I wanted to do a cooking video for the project because my mom loves to cook for me and shows her love through food. Additionally, the 21 Club was known for its gourmet food and fine-dining experience so I felt as if the opportunity presented itself. My silent film displays a step-by-step cooking tutorial on how to make an actual food item from the 21 Club along with multiple facts about the era and the club itself.
