Abstract:
Using orange peels and 7.5 pH Tris-HCl buffer, the enzyme lipase was extracted and purified using the methods of ammonium sulfate precipitation and size exclusion column chromatography, in order to determine if organic lipase can be used in the bioremediation of lipids, produced by cooking oil waste.  Theoretically, lipase can catalyze the hydrolysis of fats in vitro and thus can be used to break down fats and lipids outside of the body, potentially to be useful for remediating oil spills and for easy disposal of cooking oil waste.
