With an Emphasis on the 1980's
In my project, you will walk through each wave of Feminism, spending the most time on the second wave, taking place during the 1980’s. These waves resemble the fight that women have always had to fight as a result of an unequal, unjust life. Women were confined to the home and had to be submissive to their dominant male peers. Women were not allowed to be educated, could not participate in society or in politics, and definitely were not allowed to control their own lives and act on their own decisions. However, with Feminist movements fighting against these issues starting in the 1950’s and continuing today, women continuously gained more and more rights. More women were acting on their feminsit ideals and demanding change. The 1980’s especially had many women influencing change such as Janet Jackson and Aretha Franklin in the musical and media industry, as well as Ruth Bader Ginsburg being the second woman appointed to the Supreme Court in 1980. Women were also able to take control of their bodies as a result of the 1980’s, a major step in the right direction for these movements. All together, this presentation will explain why there was a need for each Feminist movement, and what the outcomes of each were.
