Abstract:
With the substantial amount of research done on the topic of postpartum depression, we are interested in understanding what the impact of resources other than mental health counseling has on improving symptoms and longevity of postpartum depression. We seek to identify protective factors and interventions for the treatment of postpartum depression and advocate for practice changes for the benefit of patients and their families. Evidence has shown that resources and alternative therapies such as social support, a spiritual community, exercise therapy, acupuncture, and cognitive-behavioral therapy can be beneficial to the treatment of PPD rather than mental health counseling alone. This should serve as a basis for providing more resources to mothers and families experiencing PPD.
