Abstract:
My symposium project focuses on how creating art helped to advance feminism in the 1980s. Many female artists such as Barbara Kruger, Cindy Sherman, and Sherrie Levine are showcased throughout including their artwork in light of the feminist movement. I focus primarily on the Guerrilla Girls and how they dedicated their lives to actively promote gender equality and fight against sexism in the art world all while remaining anonymous. I wanted to emphasize what art has done to help push forward woman artists as well as the feminist movement.
