Abstract:
The occupation of Alcatraz Island started as a political movement led by Richard Oakes.  He welcomed Natives of all tribes to occupy the island that once belonged to the local Ohlone people.  The main goal was to get the unesed land returned to the Native Americans.  The occupation lasted a total of 19 months and members of tribes from accros the Nation joined him.  Members of my own tribe, Winnemum Wintu of the Shasta region, joined in and this poster is inspired by the ones my people carried during the occupation.
