Abstract:
For my SYRCE project I decided to do my research about African American gangs in the 1980s. A lot of my research focused on the chronological effects of gangs: what happened in the 1970s, how did that affect the 1980s, what happened in the 1980s, and how that affected the 1990s and beyond. While doing my research about the 1980s specifically, I found a plethora of information about drugs and violence in gangs and the media’s representation of gangs, such as gangsta rap. I also found images that I included in my presentation that helped to illustrate gang life and what it really meant to be in a gang.
