Abstract:
The CSU Office of Innovation, in partnership with Adobe Creative Cloud, offered a grant opportunity for undergraduates learning in interdisciplinary GE programs. I received a grant and this year my LIBS 202 "Challenge and Response" students did research into social justice issues of their choice, and then created artworks representing these issues. The artwork they did was then manipulated and re-presented in the Cloud. The students enjoyed the relief of engaging in artwork as a response to the challenging issues they addressed; not only was it personally meaningful and enriching, but as a small learning community they also learned that art can express and represent issues in ways that no other medium or text can do. Additionally, Adobe Creative Cloud is a creative tool that can be used during COVID-19 online learning. The sample image shown addressed the issue of human rights, and a range of other issues, including LGBTQ+ activism, homelessness, income inequality, and more were artistically rendered.
