Abstract:
I made this crossword to go over some of the biggest events that happened throughout the 70s. I wanted to show people who filled it out some of the more abstract things that they might have been not aware of during the time, along with some of the biggest events that happened, such as the watergate scandal with Nixon and the era of disco. I ’ve always been a fan of crosswords growing up, and newspapers were still one of the main ways people obtained their news during the 70s, so I thought it’d make sense to make a crossword that highlighted some of the concepts and events that we went over in class and in general what occurred in the 70s. Crosswords have always been a medium for people to learn and find out trivia about things they might not know, so I thought it’d be a good medium for not only online, but for people to print out and do it for themselves as well. I incorporated some of the terms used by other professors that were used in presentations throughout the year that we didn’t go over in my class, such as the prominence of movies having a more urban look and having anti-heroes. I want the person who looks at it and fills it out to get a general idea of the 70s but also see some of the things that aren’t nearly as focused upon when people look back at the 70s, such as the concept of postmodernism and gonzo journalism. I also wanted to show the failures of the 70s, with the war on drugs and in general the predominant use of drugs throughout the era. Hopefully, it sheds some light on some of the other less-known aspects of the 70s.
