An Instagram profile presentation on how fashion, music, and politics were expressed by participants of the 1980's punk movement.
For our creative project, we based our topic off of the question “In what way did teenage punks of the 1980’s express themselves?”. After much thought, we decided to narrow our examples of expression down to three main lenses, music, fashion, and politics. Collectively, we created an Instagram page depicted as if a punk teen from the 1980's ran the account. During the punk era, fashion was used as a way to express their distaste towards the social norm and served as a symbol of rebellion. Zena recreated three outfits, two makeup looks, and two arrays of additional attire to add to the group Instagram page. Politics in the 1980’s were heavily influenced by the punk movement. Brad decided to focus on the political aspect. Many punkers and conservatives hit a divide when it came to politics because Regan’s policies did not align with their lifestyle. This caused rebellion and a new wave of voters. The photo of the "I Voted" sticker on our instagram represented the voting aspect, and how many punkers of the 1980’s wanted Reagan out of office. Lastly, Georgia narrowed down her research on the punk era of the 80’s through a musical lens. She featured artists like Sid Vicious, The Ramones, Nirvana, and many others on the Instagram page in forms of editing, modeled apparel, videos, and tribute posts. Lastly, Georgia created a final video which includes a detailed explination of every post, given audibly by each group member.
