Abstract
The 1980’s was a decade filled with crazy hairstyles, updated technology, and a new wave of music. One aspect that set the 80’s apart from other decades would be the fashion. There were people crossing the line between the typical “men’s” and “women’s” styles. Others were choosing to be bold with bright colors and unique hairstyles. Another aspect of the decade that has actually had a lasting impact even today, is the music. The new wave of music was funky and had a techno feel. Many of the songs that were reaching the top hits had empowering messages and were helping to start the change needed in society. Artists were using their voices to inspire others by singing about sexuality, politics, and much more. The 1980’s was a time of great anxiety due to the Cold War and Reagan’s presidency, but also a time of growth and self expression. The 1980’s brought crazy colors and madness to American history, but these moments defined the population and in turn influenced what society is like today.
