Danio rerio, F. Hamilton, 1822, more commonly identified as the zebrafish, is a model organism in biomedical research for understanding human diseases. Since most of their genetic and developmental structure is similar to that of many vertebrates, including humans, by understanding the underlying nature of zebrafish, we are able to investigate methods of treating disease. The synthesis of β-carboline derivatives in the collection of a library will provide an applicable method for future research in medicine. The effects of the compound will be put under biological analysis to see if there are any significant changes in their embryonic development by having a control and a treatment group. The purpose of this study is to examine the toxicity of a minute sample of various compounds synthesized with an inherent characteristic of a β-carboline on zebrafish.
