Community-oriented policing is an approach to policing that involves a proactive style of interacting with the community, as opposed to a reactive style. Community-oriented policing entails training and socialization of both officers and community members to engage with one another to generate and maintain positive relationships that foster community development. The current research uses focus group and survey data to compare the views of Sonoma County community members with the views of Sonoma County Sheriff's sworn personnel on how community-oriented policing is going in Sonoma County.
