The State Office of Historic Preservation has designated the Northwest Information Center (NWIC) as one of nine Information Centers located throughout the state. The East Bay Regional Park District is a system of parklands and trails in Alameda and Contra Costa counties to the east of San Francisco, totaling over 125,000 acres. This agreement delivers cultural resource data in digital packages on a semi-annual schedule over a three-year period to the East Bay Regional Park District. The cultural resources manager at the East Bay Regional Park District will use this data to identify, evaluate, and protect cultural resources that may be impacted during East Bay Regional Park District projects. Funding received through this agreement will supplement core missions of the NWIC by providing employment and training opportunities to SSU students (both undergraduate and graduate) in the field of cultural resources management and exposure to the leading edge information management technologies used by the NWIC to manage the inventory in our service area. In addition to employment opportunities, funding from this agreement supports internships and educational assistance for local governments, tribal partners, and members of the public regarding the value of cultural resources and the various state or federal laws that seek to protect them.
